Waitara Public school is situated in an established area characterised by an increasing density of housing. Our diverse school population includes students from over fifty different ethnic backgrounds and two Opportunity Classes which, as selective classes, draw academically gifted and talented students from across the region. The school has a strong focus on student well-being with a wide range of programs in place to enhance the self-esteem and confidence of students and ensure that Waitara is a safe and happy place to learn. Strong partnerships with the community and a supportive parent body working closely with staff contribute to our 'Learning Community' culture. The school places strong emphasis on values education and student leadership. The academic achievements are high and there are outstanding opportunities to excel in sport, dance, drama, music, arts and other inspiring programs. An affiliative reciprocal program with Clarke Road Special School, offered to senior students, is supported with enthusiasm and dedication by students and parents. We are especially proud of our Earthkeepers' Program which is one part of the many environmental awareness strategies to which the school commits.
