Cammeray Public School is situated in an expanding residential area, close to the CBD of Sydney. In recent years, this attractive and convenient location has led to many families relocating; this has resulted in an increased student population. The increase in medium density housing available has also had a significant impact on school enrolments. Over 35% of the student population have a Non-English speaking background. Cammeray values the cultural diversity of its families and welcomes the richness of a global perspective. At Cammeray School our vision is to create a safe and caring learning environment where each student can grow, achieve and aspire to excellence. This is achieved with a strong focus on curriculum through quality teaching and learning and a continued emphasis on student wellbeing. All students are challenged to reach their full potential through explicit planning, directed teaching and personalised learning that incorporates support programs, extension programs and enrichment. Enrichment programs that are supported throughout the school year include: three bands, choir and recorder groups, senior debating teams, chess teams, language classes, public speaking programs, student leadership programs, sporting teams, Maths Olympiad, the Habits of Mind program and the Night of Notables project for year 6. All classrooms ahve been installed with interactive whiteboards ensuring that rich teaching and learning is enhanced through the effective use of technology. A computer laboratory and the placement of pods of computers throughout the school allow increased student access. An exciting library environment has been created with the addition of a literary corridor in 2011. This has expanded rich literary programs within the library, across all classrooms and with links to home through reading blogs.
