Our parish embraces the communities of Cleveland, Thornlands, Ormiston, Raby Bay, Mt Cotton and Stradbroke Island. Star of the Sea School has been built on parish land overlooking Moreton Bay and beautiful Stradbroke Island. Our vision is to provide a child-centred, diverse and innovative curriculum. As we endeavour to integrate an active, inquiry approach to learning, we believe that this saying captures the essence of our vision: 'It illuminates rather than limits - gives direction rather than destination.'
Contemporary learning is about bringing the world in which the students live into the classroom. It's about engaging students in activities which utilise their real life experiences - both in and out of the classroom - enabling them to perceive their learning as meaningful and purposeful in the real world. Learning doesn't happen in one space with one teacher. Learning also can happen anywhere, anytime, with anyone using the devices in the learning areas. The possibilities for engaging our students in learning at Star of the Sea School is endless when we consider the tools that can be used in our learning areas.
