Built by the Snowy Mountains Authority in 1953, Cooma North Public School (CNPS) currently has 285 students drawn from northern Cooma and surrounding rural subdivisions. The school is highly regarded by the community. It has a learning centre to support student extension and enrichment. Over the last three years the school facilities have been improved with an extension to the library, construction of a special purposes room and four new classrooms. In 2009 the school replaced all of its old computer hardware with new equipment. The school is structured around 'stages of learning' rather than single age-based grades, has extensive internet access, technology resources and provides outstanding creative and performing arts opportunities. As a government non-selective school Cooma North Public School caters for a wide range of individual needs, extending gifted and talented students, providing individual programmes for students with special intellectual and physical needs, whilst encouraging all students to achieve their personal best. The school has a team based approach to curriculum delivery with an emphasis on literacy, numeracy and information technology. A strong community/school partnership has culminated in a set of outcome statements, guiding all decisions.
