Maclean Public School has a current enrolment of 185 students and is a member of the Lower Clarence Community of schools. The school is located in the township of Maclean and the school acknowledges the traditional landowners, the Yaegl tribe. The core values of the school are for students to be: RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE and SAFE AT ALL TIMES in the classroom, in the playground, before and after school. The school achieves its targets by encouraging parents, students and staff to work together. At Maclean Public School we believe in: 1. The delivery of a relevant curriculum to cater for the academic, sporting and cultural endeavours of students. 2. Fostering positive home/school partnerships. 3. Valuing all students as learners with the potential to achieve. 4. High expectations for achievement and of student behaviour. 5. A sense of pride in wearing the school uniform and the presentation of the school to the wider community. Our targets over the next 3 years will focus on: 1. Improving literacy skills through teacher professional development in the Years 3 to 6 Focus on Reading program. 2. Improving numeracy skills through participation in Mathletics, Targeting Early Numeracy and Go Maths programs. 3. Engaging students in their learning by using connected learning tools (interactive whiteboards and computers) and home / school partnerships. Extracurricula activities include: Debating, Public Speaking, Newspapers in Education, Byron Bay Writers Festival, Dance Eisteddfod, Kids in the Kitchen, K to 6 swimming for Sport, PSSA knockouts in RL, touch, soccer, netball and tennis. The school employs a CLO one day per week to continue to develop home / school partnerships. Parent /Teacher meetings are held in February, April and September with written Semester Reports in June and December.
