St Margaret's is a small school of approximately 250 children located in the north-west of Melbourne, just a short walk from the Maribyrnong River. The school was originally established by the Sisters of Sion and then the Sisters of Mercy. Throughout its 50 year history, St Margaret's has had a long association with refugees from all corners of the world. This has enabled the school to develop its vision of a welcoming community striving for educational excellence in an inspiring and motivating environment. The school promises the growth of the whole person, acknowledging and celebrating that we learn and develop at different rates. The life of our community is based on gospel values which permeate the life of the school. The school is located in a very quiet suburban area, within a very special community. The area is similar to a small country town where the school is a major focus of the community. In recent times the demographics of the area have changed with several large new estates being established with the promise of more to come.
