Preston West Primary School is located on Murray Road Preston in the City of Darebin. While located in a residential area the school is in close proximity to the Preston Market and High Street Shopping precinct. The main school building is a double storey brick building that was built in 1915 and the addition of our new hall, surrounding landscaped garden and a dry creek river bed are fantastic assets to the school. Preston West has a rich history of educational excellence serving the community for over 95 years. The enrolment has continued to increase from 314 in 2006 to 473 at the beginning of 2010. The trend for increased enrolments is expected to continue in the next few years and school facilities have expanded to meet this need. Preston West has seen a significant change in the overall socio-economic profile from a low-mid to a mid-high profile. There are 28 home languages other than English. Our purpose is to provide a safe, stimulating and supportive environment that develops all students to their full potential - academically, socially and personally. Specialist teachers conduct intervention, Physical Education, Visual Arts, English as a Second Language (ESL), Music and LOTE (Italian) Programs. Preston West is committed to improving the achievement of all students through the provision of a challenging academic program based on the Victorian Essential Learning Standard (VELS) and reflecting worldwide best practice for 21st century learners. Our school has 42 equivalent full time staff: 2 Principal Class, 30 teachers and 10 Educational Support staff.
