At Kallista Primary School we want every child to be literate, numerate and curious. Skills are taught through a balance of differentiated explicit teaching and purposeful class explorations with rich teacher-child interactions in a caring environment. We aim to strengthen each child’s enthusiasm, confidence, curiosity, co-operation, commitment and perseverance. We want our students to acquire a love of life-long learning, creating optimistic, responsible, contributing members of our local and global communities. The school achieves this mission by having a strong sense of community and commitment to caring for every child. A growth in enrolment for 2012 will bring the school's population to 220. We are thrilled to be in newly renovated spacious classrooms as well as our new BER Junior Learning Centre. These modern flexible learning spaces allow us to implement an active and relevant learning program. Learning partnerships are formed with parents and teachers who all want the best for the children. It is our priority to ensure that all children feel good about themselves and are successfully connected through quality learning programs. We focus on educating the whole child and the children take on many leadership roles within the school. We offer a curriculum that engages all learners at their own developmental levels. Children throughout the school experience a range of open-ended investigative activities in purposeful and meaningful contexts. Learning occurs through literacy and numeracy and skills are also taught through explicit teaching catering for all ability levels. We have a whole school approach to teaching Literacy where the children are taught to think and question what they read and to track their thoughts. The Junior classes use the Walker Developmental Curriculum to structure their investigations and connected learning. Kallista Primary School is a very special place to be.
