Nakara Primary School is located in the Darwin suburb of Nakara. Nakara Primary School is a culturally diverse learning community with students from a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds. The students at the school originate from more than 35 different countries, including countries in Africa, Europe, South East Asia, and North and South America. In 2008, 40 languages were listed as being spoken by families as a first or home language. The school's English as a Second Language (ESL) program caters for both students of Indigenous background and students with language backgrounds other than English. Other programs at the school include a specialist music program, special education and an Outside School Hours Program. Nakara Primary School is also a member of the School's Advisory Panel for the Australian Children's Television Foundation. The school also includes the Nakara Hospital School located in the Royal Darwin Hospital and caters for children who have extended stays in hospital who are aged between 4 to 17. Lessons for high school students and special education students are provided in consultation with their school.
