Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School was established in Berrima in 1987 and moved, in 1994, to the current location in the satellite town of Palmerston, about 20 km east of Darwin. It serves a rapidly growing population and is the closest Catholic School to Robertson Barracks. Sacred Heart School is a welcoming and friendly community which allows students to grow in the Catholic faith. It provides a holistic education, suited to each child's needs, through the cooperation of staff, children, parents, parish and friends in the wider community. Sacred Heart School is established on spacious grounds with facilities for fourteen classes, large shaded play and assembly areas, an undercover stage and physical education area, tuckshop, parent room, administration block and staffroom, fields, basketball courts and cricket nets .We have a separate building for a 90-placement After School, Before School and Vacation Care facility including a kitchen area. There is an Early Learning centre for 3-4 year olds on site. Sacred Heart provides specialist teaching in Indonesian, Visual Arts and Physical Education and support for indigenous students. The school has strong Information and technology capabilities with interactive whiteboards in every classroom, computers and laptops for students to access. Sacred Heart has many programmes to support children's development of social and emotional skills. The school has been recognised for its work in the 'Count Me In' numeracy program with a National Literacy & Numeracy award; it is recognised as school of best practice in Values Education and certified as a 'Tribes' school, a program to develop students' skills in working together. The school collaborates with the Exodus foundation to offer an intensive program in literacy to Indigenous students. From 2012 Sacred Heart School will be a feeder school for the newly established Catholic High School in the Palmerston/Rural Area
