Northam SHS is the oldest Senior High School outside the Metro area, having been established in 1921. Its historical buildings exemplify the tradition and history of the school, whilst ongoing upgrades provide excellent teaching and learning facilities. A wide range of lower and upper school courses are available and Northam SHS has a proud academic record with recent tertiary results being some of the best in the state. Northam SHS is very well resourced in the Student Services area. Pastoral Care is the role of every teacher, and this is led by a dedicated Student Services Team consisting of Year Coordinators, Chaplain, Psychologist, Nurse and Aboriginal and Islander Education Officers. Regular meetings of this group, as well as a wider group involving teachers from all faculties ensures that all students receive the support they deserve. The school supports such initiatives with a 'Student Code of Conduct' and a 'Good Standing Policy'. All the teaching staff have university qualifications and there is an excellent blend of youth and experience. With a student population of around 600 student's class sizes in most subjects are small giving an opportunity for personal attention.
