Larapinta Primary School is a modern, innovative and responsive primary school located on the western edge of Alice Springs. The school sits at the foot of Mount Gillen and boasts magnificent views. Staff at Larapinta Primary School focus strongly on a positive ethos and the development of meaningful policies that reflect current theory and best educational practice. This has resulted in the school pursuing activities such as team teaching innovations, the First Steps Maths program, incorporating Multiple Intelligence perspectives, and effective assessment, recording and reporting techniques. Team teaching and dispersed leadership continue to be clear features of the school, with an ongoing emphasis on improvement and innovation in all areas of teaching and learning. The collection, analysis and action on school and system level data ensures the school is constantly monitoring progress and improving outcomes. Intervention programs provide targeted support for students as required. These include both curriculum based programs such as Quicksmart Mathematics, and social-emotional programs, for example Drumbeat. A standout Music program is provided to all students from Transition to Year 6. Larapinta's choir had the honour of being invited to sing with the Darwin Symphony Orchestra at the Alice Springs Desert Park in 2011 before a crowd of thousands. The school participates each year in 'Music Count Us In' and also entered the Generation One song competition in 2011. There is a junior and senior choir and senior students are encouraged to access instrumental lessons through the Northern Territory Music School. Physical Education is also a popular component of the Larapinta program. Students participate in a weekly PE lesson, access visiting sports clinics, attend school sports and interschool athletics days and have the opportunity to try out for various sporting carnivals.
