Ross Park Primary School is the oldest operating government primary school in Alice Springs, celebrating its 50th birthday during 2011. Nearby Rona Glynn Preschool forms part of the school complex. The school vision is to be an inclusive, happy and caring community that encourages a love of learning, while fostering responsible, confident children with a strong social and environmental conscience. Ross Park Primary School has a number of programs in place, including Tribes, Bluearth and First Steps Literacy and Numeracy. The school has an Early Childhood Development Class that integrates special needs students into the mainstream during their first year of schooling. Ross Park Primary School also runs an After School Study Centre where small group support is offered to students. In the past three years, all classrooms have been rebuilt or renovated, with attractive colourful areas designed for collaborative learning. Indoor/outdoor learning spaces make the most of the Central Australian climate and encourage play based learning. Stage 4 of the building upgrade will provide additional classrooms and an upgrade to the administration area. The school has extensive grounds that include native gardens and also has access to the adjacent Town Council oval. Among the school's values is Creativity and students actively participate in a wide variety of community events such as the Eisteddfod, Alice Desert Festival and Wearable Arts. Music and the Arts are a significant part of the school and specialist teachers provide programs to students. An annual successful community event is the Spring Fair which has the support of parents and the wider community. About one fifth of the school enrolments are Indigenous students. Due to the school and preschool being at capacity, a Priority Enrolment policy is in place.
