IMPORTANT NOTE: Toongabbie East Public School also hosts the offices of the Reading Recovery Program, the District Hearing Unit and the District Guidance Officer. The staff of these programs are counted in our staff tally but are not part of our teaching staff. The school itself has only two classes, an Infants K/1/2 and a Primary 3/4/5/6. Teaching staff comprise an infants teacher and a teaching Principal, with a support teacher. It is not appropriate to compare our school to a school with larger staff numbers. The school is situated in western Sydney, drawing students predominantly from a public housing estate. It receives funding under the Priority Schools Program. The school is committed to the empowerment of students, staff and community and the provision of quality education for students through learning programs designed to be relevant and engaging. The school's aim is to develop in students a desire to achieve their personal best and to gain a sense of personal worth, identity and independence. As a participant in the PBL (Positive Behaviour for Learning) program the school teaches values and attitudes that support relationships and social responsibility. The school instils a sense of responsibility for students' own learning and a desire to make learning a lifelong activity. Creative thought and the art of communication and self-expression are focus areas and the school maintains a strong fitness program. English, Mathematics and Science and Technology are priority learning areas. The school is well appointed and has an excellent learning technology base including interactive whiteboards in each classroom, a connected classroom, a class set of laptops, multiple LEGO robotics sets and a planetarium - the only one of its kind in a primary school. The small enrolment of the school allows close support of learners resulting in excellent progress throughout the primary years.
