Our mission at Good Shepherd Primary School is to be a centre of learning which integrates gospel values and quality education, whilst focusing on the needs of the children in a changing and complex world. This reflects our pursuit of Peace and Joy; our school motto. The two values of respect and responsibility are inherent in all we do as a Catholic school community that is enriched by our cultural diversity. We value and nurture the gifts and talents that each child, parent and staff member bring to our school. The school was established in 1979 by the Capuchin Franciscan Friars and Poor Clare Sisters. Good Shepherd Primary School has continued to maintain links with our Franciscan heritage, and grow in knowledge and faith of the Franciscan spirituality. The Years 3 and 5 National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) results demonstrate that our students meet the national minimum standards in literacy, plus show an improvement in numeracy. The school has identified the teaching and learning of numeracy and literacy as a continuing focus for professional development. The integration of IT into all key learning areas is also a continued focus. Pastoral care of students and families is a priority and underpins the relationships and activities that take place in the community. The school is involved in a number of extracurricular and cultural activities including the school musical and J Rock/Wakakirri performances, school choir performances and eisteddfods, representing the school in a variety of sporting events, activities that further promote reading and public speaking skills through the Premier's Reading Challenge, public speaking competitions and Voice of Youth. Our outreach to the wider community is demonstrated by the work of our ‘Mini Vinnies’ group and fundraising activities to support charitable organisations.
