St John’s Primary Auburn is a Catholic systemic school within the Archdiocese of Sydney. It is situated in the Parish of Auburn, educating boys and girls from Kindergarten to Year 6. We welcome children and their families from many lands and cultures. Students, staff and parish form a diverse, enthusiastic community. St John’s Auburn was established by the Sisters of Charity in 1893. It is a dynamic, multicultural community that celebrates its cultural diversity. Our school mission ‘Building Relationships for Learning’ describes our commitment to being a community that fosters relationships between students, parents and staff based on the Gospel values of love, hope, dignity, justice, respect and equality. Each year eight student leaders are elected, based on the value they best represent. These learning values are integrated into our class programs, liturgies and Restorative Justice practices. At St John’s we develop learning programs to support success in all students, providing skills and understanding for life-long learning. Teachers work collaboratively with specialists to meet individual needs. We cater for the diverse needs of learners through Reading Recovery, ESL, Special Needs and Bluearth programs. We have a Teacher Educator who provides Professional Development for all staff, with a particular focus on reading. We are committed to equipping students for 21st century learning in a digital world by skilling them in the use of technology as a tool for creative and critical thinking. We have a strong focus on parent engagement, with a Conversation group to build confidence in English language, opportunity for social interaction with other families and members of the school community.
