Whitefriars College is a Catholic Boys Secondary College run by the Carmelite Order. Founded in 1961, it has an enrolment of approximately 1160 students, offering a broad curriculum. Whilst most students proceed to VCE, others undertake VCAL. A number of VET subjects complement the wide range of academic subjects. Reflecting the tradition of the Carmelites who seek to discover the presence of God in all people and all creation, Whitefriars' mission is to nurture the development of Christian gentle men who are happy in themselves, sensitive to others and constructively critical of the world in which they live whilst able to work effectively within it and committed to improving it. Whitefriars is situated on nineteen hectares of beautiful bushland. Excellent facilities supporting the broad curriculum include a Chapel, seven Science Laboratories, Visual and Performing Arts Centre which includes a 240 seat Theatre, Drama Studio, Extensive Library, VCE Centre, two Gymnasiums, three sporting ovals, specialized Computer Laboratories, Student Support Centre and extensive grounds. The vertical, House based Pastoral Care system is complemented by Careers and Pathways Advisers, Counsellors/Psychologists and Chaplains. The co-curriculum program includes an Outdoor Learning Program, ACC Inter-school Sport, an extensive music program and overseas Study Tours that complement the LOTE studies of Italian, Indonesian and Chinese (Mandarin). Offering a holistic education, in which a broad range of students are supported in a variety of ways to develop physically, spiritually, socially, emotionally and intellectually, Whitefriars aims to empower each student to achieve his dreams and to perform to the best of his ability.
