In 2010, Mount Eliza Secondary College provided a broad comprehensive Years 7 to 12 program for 1024 students. The College is rated as mid-high on the overall socio-economic profile, based on Student Family Occupations and low-mid on the proportion of students with English as a second language. During 2010, the College underwent a Diagnostic Review which identified a number of factors crucial to achieving improvement in student learning outcomes during the life of the School Strategic Plan for 2011 - 2014. The Review found that Mount Eliza Secondary College needs an unrelenting focus on striving for excellence. The Review also noted that the extended period of uncertainty in principal leadership (acting principal in place for 21 months) and the changeover of assistant principals may have been a factor in inhibiting school progress. The newly appointed principal has responded to the recommendations arising out of the review by establishing a cohesive leadership team that is working together to deliver an agreed and shared vision for the College. The Review also noted that the physical environment and resourcing challenges are also a significant factor, adding that the generally poor presentation of the school does not project an air of confidence or pride. The College has responded to this challenge through the development of a pedagogical master plan and is working on building partnerships with local community organisations to support the implementation of this master plan.
