Simonds Catholic College is an inner-city school for boys. It aims to provide an excellent Catholic education at a moderate and affordable cost to families. Simonds operates two campuses; St Mary's, located in West Melbourne, accommodates Years 7 to 10 while St Brigid's, in Fitzroy North, is a specialist VCE campus. From 2011 the expected student population will be approximately 540 students. The moderate size of the College enables each boy to be individually known and boys experience a sense of belonging to the school community. The values of the college are respect for self, others, and the environment, which are inspired by the values taught by Jesus. The College offers a broad curriculum which includes an emphasis on literacy, numeracy, the sciences and technology. Beginning in 2011 a special literacy program will operate three days a week for all boys in Year 7-9. Extensive use is made of the many excellent educational and sporting facilities provided by the City of Melbourne. Co-curricular activities include a wide variety of sports, debating, chess and participation in joint musical productions with students from the Academy of Mary Immaculate. In the senior years, students are offered a wide range of VCE subjects and VET subjects which are provided through our participation in a unique partnership of fifty one secondary schools located in the inner Melbourne region. VCE class sizes are limited with an average of 15 students per class. Parents are welcome to participate in Arts and Technology workshops and the Time and Spice program which supports boys in their growth and development to become fine young men.
