Conducted by the Sisters of Mercy since 1896, Mount Lilydale Mercy College is a Catholic Co-educational College in the outer eastern suburbs which caters for the need of approximately 1450 students in an environment of care based on gospel values. The College values a spirituality that has as its basis a love of God, knowledge and experience of Gospel values which is demonstrated through our celebration of life, acknowledging the teachings of the Catholic Church. Each student is encouraged to develop intellectual honesty, an openness to knowledge and wonder, a tolerance and acceptance of people and a commitment to care about others. Respect for the dignity of each human person is encouraged through a strong sense of social justice that has as its basis, a love of God, of others and of life. We aim to foster justice, compassion, hope and hospitality in the Mercy tradition. Our Pastoral Care program promotes respect for each person's uniqueness, dignity and worth. We strive to create a strong sense of community and students are encouraged to be actively involved in the life of the College, particularly through the extensive co-curricular programme. We believe that an essential element of human wellbeing is the experience of belonging, of being connected to others in a community. Our students appreciate the importance that is attached to ‘belonging’ to their school. The student leaders encourage the younger students to join in school activities. In addition to the internal sports programme, the College is affiliated with the Eastern Independent Schools of Melbourne inter-school competition. This provides many opportunities for students to develop their love and skill in sport. In addition the College provides opportunities for student involvement in the Performing arts through an annual Festival, Musical and Play and encourages Public Speaking and Debating through participation in external competitions.
