St John's Catholic School was established in 1839 and is located in Richmond, an historic town 25 minutes from Hobart. The original founding orders were the Presentation Sisters followed by the Sisters of St Joseph. The school caters for students from Kindergarten to Grade 6, with a current enrolment of around 300 students. The core values and mission of St John's are reflected in the school motto, 'Love One Another as I have Loved You' which plays a vital role in all of the school's undertakings, from religious education and behaviour-management to the manner in which the school welcomes all community members. St John's community is committed to respect the individuality of all students, while aiming to develop their social, intellectual, physical, moral and spiritual capabilities. The school provides a broad curriculum through exciting and innovative programmes integrating information technology into all curriculum areas, including support and extension programmes. St John's encourages parents, as the first and most important educators of children, to participate in the life of the school, from the Pre- Kinder Programme, classroom assistance, school and Parish gatherings as well as becoming active members of the Parents and Friends Association or the School Board.
