Blackburn Primary School aims for continuous improvement in student learning. Our school is a happy and vibrant place with dedicated teaching staff and a supportive parent body. In addition to the prescribed curriculum, we offer many outstanding extra curricular activities including instrumental music, dance and chess club. We have a relatively high proportion of E.S.L. students and the majority of these students are Chinese speaking. We offer quality ESL literacy support programs for these students.The current enrolment is 460 students. The staff consists of Principal, Assistant Principal and there are 24.2 effective full time teaching staff and 7 effective full time education support officers. There are 20 class groups and specialist teachers in the areas of Physical Education and Sport and Visual Arts and Music. LOTE Mandarin has been successfully introduced in 2011. The school offers a comprehensive high quality curriculum and challenges and supports all students to meet their full potential and acquire attitudes and competencies that will allow them to make positive ,creative contributions to society. We continue to build capacity to enhance student learning outcomes through the use of digital learning and assessment practices. All learning spaces are equipped with electronic whiteboards to enhance the scope of learning in every curriculum area. The school has developed a Master Plan and is likely to begin a staged redevelopment of its facilities within the next 18 months. A full size basketball stadium was completed in 2010 - an outstanding amenity.
