Berwick Fields Primary School is situated in the City of Casey, south east of Melbourne. The school opened in 2006 and at the start of 2011 has 940 students attending. We have 72.99 equivalent full time staff consisting of 2.4 Principal class, 2.8 Leading Teachers, 50.7 teachers and 17.39 Education Support Staff. Our vision is 'To strive to build an involved community. One that fosters the achievement of personal best. One that makes a difference to others'. Currently our priorities include improving student achievement in the areas of Number and Reading, as well as improving student connectedness and transition processes. In 2009 our students, staff and parents identified the following elements that we believe each of our students need to be proficient in to prepare themselves for the 21st Century. Collaborating within a team, creating new ideas and perspectives, understanding the learning process (cognition), communicating with purpose, making connections with their learning and contributing to others. These underpin our planning and future work in 2010, as we strive to develop the ‘whole’ child. Learning opportunities have recently been enhanced by the construction of a performing arts theatre; digital library extension and Stephanie Alexander kitchen/dining facility. Our community is proud of what we have achieved so far and this report does not provide all the information we would like to share.
