Hunter Trade College is located in the centre of the Hunter Valley, in Maitland, NSW. The College is a specialist trade training, independent, senior secondary high school, accredited to deliver the NSW HSC. The College delivers trade training on site, in stage 1, Certificate III Automotive, Electrotechnology, Carpentry, Metal and Engineering Fabrication and Metal and Engineering Fitting. It operates as the RTO for the 5 trade courses it delivers. The College offers students the opportunity to commence trade training as a substantial component of their HSC course. In addition to the trade training all students study General Maths, Computing Applications, English Studies and Industry Based Learning. All students complete 50 days of industry experience each year and may access school based apprenticeship and traineeship opportunities. The College works with more than 400 regional businesses to provide workplace learning and school based training opportunities. The College uses a unique timetable structure that provides 2 days per week in Year 11 and 3 days per week in Year 12, for industry experience as an integral component of the trade training. The industry experience program is organised by the College work placement officers. The College has an industry led Board of Directors who are responsible for governance and ensuring responsiveness to industry and employer needs. The College works closely with employers to ensure its trade training and employability skills programs meet industry standards and employer needs. The College teaching and training programs foster excellence in the development of student trade, employability, Maths and communication skills. These skills are explicitly taught and assessed at the College and in the workplace learning program. OH&S knowledge, skills and compliance are a priority for all staff and students at the College.
