Pooncarie Public school is a small rural school located 250km south of Broken Hill on the Darling River. The school is a PP6 school with four enrolments anticipated for the commencement of 2012. Pooncarie Public school is part of the Sunraysia cluster of schools and has close connections with the other local small schools. The school has a strong commitment to literacy, numeracy, values education, student welfare and community partnerships. Pooncarie Public School and the community value all children and their individuality and have developed programs in creative and performing arts while maintaining excellent programs in literacy and numeracy. The school motto of ‘Strive to Advance Together” underpins all that we do at Pooncarie Public School. Pooncarie Public School provides an education, which is relevant and comprehensive, empowering students to take responsibility in the learning process. The school also provides opportunities for students to have a wider view of the world through excursions, visits by performers, networking with other schools and by providing programs that develop talents that may not be readily available in the community. We have a strong P&C Association with 100% participation from our families. School families are located both from within the township and on outlying properties. The Pooncarie community shares the responsibility of preparing our students for their futures. Our school is like an extended family. We are part of the Country Areas Program.
