Bidwill Public School is located in Mt Druitt, a western suburb of Sydney. The school is unique in that it shares the grounds with the Chifley College Bidwill campus. In addition to Kindergarten to Year 6 educational programs, the school also provides a Preschool program (three classes) and special needs programs with two classes for students with emotional disturbance and moderate intellectual disabilities. Integration funding is used to integrate a further fifteen students with special needs into classes across Year 2 to Year 6. The student population reflects the cultural diversity of the community, with significant enrolments from Aboriginal and Pacific Islander cultural groups. Additional funding sources are used to employ community liaison officers from each community group to support students and encourage family participation in school programs. The school's mission is the provision of quality education to bridge the gap of socio-economic disadvantage. Priority Schools Funding and Priority Action Schools Funding is utilised to develop student literacy and numeracy skills and improve outcomes; engage students through quality learning experiences; provide quality professional development for staff and build a school culture that recognises and celebrates student, staff and community achievement and effort. In 2010 key programs include Accelerated Literacy, Prioritising Grammar (PSP Regional Initiative), Quick Smart (numeracy), Reading Recovery, Learning Assistance, English as a Second Language and Examining Data to Improve Numeracy (PSP Regional Initiative). At Bidwill Public School our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) expectations are Respect, Have a Go and Fair Go. In 2011 Bidwill Public School will join the National Partnerships on Low SES School Communities initiative.
