Merino Consolidated was established in 1954 with the consolidation of several schools within the district. At Merino Consolidated we believe that 'learning is for life and that everybody is somebody'. Our mission as a government primary school is to prepare our students for life by establishing the basic values, attitudes, knowledge and skills required in order to become an effective learner and participant in life beyond school. Our core values are based on 9 principles, outlined in our School Strategic Plan. We pride ourselves on a strong tradition of teaching and learning, with a particular emphasis on Literacy and Numeracy. Curriculum is planned in alignment with the Victorian Essential Learning Standards. Student progress is monitored regularly with assessment and reporting carried out reflecting achievement, as required by department regulations. Specialist classes are carried out in the areas of Art and Library (MARC Van), Music, Choir and Physical Education and ITC. The school also runs the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program, promoting the importance of a healthy lifestyle through specialist kitchen and garden classes. The school is well resourced with numerous classrooms catering for the needs of staff and students in all curriculum areas. This includes a brand new MOD 5 portable classroom, installed at the end of 2009, along with a fully equipped kitchen for class use. This school has 5.8 equivalent full-time staff: 1.0 Principal class, 2.6 Teachers and 2.2 Education Support Staff. The school enrolment for the year was 35 students.
