The Maryborough Education Centre (MEC) was established in 2005 from an amalgamation of local schools. It offers a comprehensive education P-12 including Special Education. The enrolment in 2010 was 1203 students. Positive relationships are central with six core values identified: respect, safety, inclusion, achievement, enjoyment and consistency. These values are taught daily with dedicated Values/Pathways lessons at all year levels. The Centre values its partnership with the parent community as a vital means of building the students' connection with school. To improve literacy and numeracy, coaches work side by side with teachers. Student relationships are enhanced by the implementation of Restorative Practices within the Positive Behaviour Management approach. Transition into Prep, Year 7 and from the school in the later years is addressed in a focused manner. National Partnership funding has further enhanced the Centre's capacity in all areas of student outcomes. This will continue for the next four years. A small cohort of indigenous students is supported through the Wannik strategy. MEC is participating in the ‘Netbook’ Program and is ready to extend the use of Ultranet for curriculum development and later for direct communication between teachers and students and parents. There are vibrant Visual and Performing Arts programs. The Centre production and instrumental music programs and Energy Breakthrough have strong community profiles. In 2010 MEC had 4 Principal class, EFT 84 teachers and EFT 45.3 Education Support Staff.
