Loxton North Primary School is set in the heart of the Riverland's orchard, vineyard and farming area. It is a country school in character, with most children coming from families associated with primary production. Over the past years many members of the district and school community have suffered as a result of the hard climatic and resultant economic conditions. Loxton North is a community-based school. There are high levels of community involvement, both at a local and wider Riverland level. There is a close working arrangement with the Loxton North Kindergarten and Playgroup (situated on the same campus). We strive for personal excellence and enjoyment and provide a learning environment that is responsive to students' individual needs. Each day there is a two-hour literacy block, which is followed by a one-hour numeracy block. We have high expectations and provide appropriate support and individualised programs to students who need early intervention in learning and to those who are high achievers. Students are encouraged to participate in leadership activities in the Student Representative Council and in peer settings. Values of respect, trust, optimism and commitment are encouraged and students are given a variety of opportunities in academic, social and sporting endeavours. Our excellent facilities include air-conditioned classrooms with interactive whiteboards, a well-equipped computer room, numerous resources to support information and communications technology (eg, digital cameras and movie cameras), laptops linked to a wireless network throughout the school, a new fully equipped science and art room, a sports stadium and a student garden promoting recycling and sustainable practices. A variety of additional opportunities are provided to support the curriculum including involvement in the Premier's Reading Challenge and Be Active program, International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS), Pedal Prix, sporting activities, attending performances, local excursions, camps and sleepovers...
