Maylands Peninsula Primary School is situated approximately 5 kilometres from the Central Business District. We cater for 470 students from Kindergarten to Year Seven. The school has a richly diverse socio-economic and cultural population, with 150 students from 33 different countries speaking a language other than English at home. In addition, we have 40 students from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds. We operate an English as a Second Language support program. Science is a priority in the school with all teachers utilising the Primary Connections Science approach. In order to enhance the performance and attendance of High Achieving Aboriginal Students from Year 3 through to Year Seven the school has undertaken a pilot program for the Department of Education. This program uses Primary Connections with its strong literacy base to maintain the performance of the identified Aboriginal students. A whole school approach to Values Education is addressed through The Games Factory's Play is the Way in which students participate in daily team games to build self esteem and an appreciation of diversity amongst their peers. The school has a Learning Support Co-ordinator whose role is to ensure inclusivity across the school and specifically teacher and parent support for our students with special needs. All students participate in a dance program that culminates in a community performance and Visual Ats Exhibition. The school offers an extensive Music program provided through a music specialist, School of Instrumental Music tutors and two private providers offering recorder and keyboard tuition. To promote a good start at school for our young students, a Story-Telling and Play Program is offered to three year olds and their parents. This program is supported by Speech Therapists, Occupational Therapists and the Community Nurse. Maylands Peninsula Primary School is family friendly school that embraces diversity.
