Singleton High School is a large comprehensive rural high school in the Muswellbrook Education Area. The school has as its charter: 'A Learning Community fostering the talents of all students for a better future'. The school has a comprehensive curriculum offering a diverse range of traditional subjects and dual-accredited vocational education courses, as well as providing access to TAFE delivered Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses at Singleton TAFE. The school has enhanced its partnership with TAFE and the Community College through the Singleton Education Precinct. This educational precinct has as its mission statement "changing lives through life long learning". The Precinct was also recognised by the Singleton Chamber of Commerce in 2009 "as the most outstanding business of the year', and in 2010 education and training award by the Chamber of Commerce. We have also enhanced employment opportunities of students through the establishment of a Trade Training Centre with non-government schools in the Singleton community. This will enable our students to develop pathways in Primary Industry, Electro-Technology, Construction, Automotive and Hospitality. The school's focus is to enhance the educational opportunities for all students. To this end, we have developed explicit models of Quality Teaching, models for improving literacy and numeracy, and innovations in authentic assessment for Year 10. We have developed an interdisciplinary curriculum for Year 7 which involves an investigative learning approach. In Year 7 and Year 8 we have further enhanced the opportunities with our Gifted and Talented students by the creation of an Enrichment class. Our KaWul Centre promotes improved Aboriginal outcomes for all students and community. Our NAIDOC week celebrations enables the school to further foster our relationships with the local Aboriginal community and our partner schools. Singleton High School serves its diverse local community and provides lifelong learning opportunities for the youth of Singleton.
