Eastwood Primary School and Deaf Facility seeks to optimise the potential of each child and promote an engaging, friendly, safe and healthy learning environment. We are committed to achieving excellence in teaching and learning at all levels through continuous improvement. Eastwood PS was the first school in the state to have a dedicated Deaf Facility which is a highly successful integrated setting for 21 students all of whom are supported by specialised staff. Even though Facility students are on highly individualised programs the majority are assessed against VELS and participate in the National Testing program. In 2011 we had a staffing allocation of a Principal, an Assistant Principal, 16.3 teachers and 5.2 support staff; the Deaf Facility had 5.8 teachers and 1.3 support staff (EFT). Staffing included 3.4 leading & 5.7 expert teachers. In 2011 we had 293 delightful students which included 6 students on the Program for Students with Disabilities. Interactive whiteboards, computers, ipads and a range of digital video resources throughout the school gives students routine access to technology to enhance the learning program. The school has a successful ESL and Refugee program with close links with local schools and agencies to provide effective programs. Student leadership at all year levels provides opportunities for students to participate in a range of authentic activities. Teachers creatively use spaces to maximise learning throughout the school and we are currently Master Planning to design new school buildings to complement the engaging curriculum.
