Oakleigh Primary School is committed to providing a stimulating and broad based educational program to a student body that is diverse socially, economically and culturally – a facet valued and celebrated by the community. The Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS) is used to develop an integrated approach to curriculum planning, teaching and assessment in Prep-6. The school has a strong focus on Literacy and Numeracy. Students from Years One to Six are catered for in multi-age classes. There are many extra-curricular opportunities including swimming, interschool sport, instrumental music and choir, tennis coaching and a chess club. Our recent computer upgrade and purchase of interactive whiteboards for all classrooms has enabled students and staff to explore, and connect with, a technologically rich global environment. Sinificantly the school now has a fully operational kindergarten on site which adds to the community feel of the school. The vast majority of 4 year old kindergarten children now move seamlessly from kindergarten to the prep classes on the same site. Oakleigh has a vibrant staff with enviable mix of genders, experience and talents. They provide students with opportunities to augment the school program by accessing the varied cultural, sporting and community resources located in the area. The school is a social hub for many of our families and enjoys strong parent support and involvement. Parents are welcomed into the school, participating in classroom activities and assisting in other capacities such as on school committees and fundraising.
