Tyabb PS is a happy, friendly and secure environment that is an integral part of the local community. The school is firmly committed to meeting the physical, social, emotional and intellectual needs of its students by providing a stimulating learning environment where children are encouraged to achieve their personal best. We focus on the development of a child's personal, social and thinking skills as well as their academic achievements in all areas. Knowledge and skills are further developed through an Inquiry Learning Approach aimed at preparing students for the challenges of the 21st century. Tyabb PS is situated on the Mornington Peninsula, in a semi-rural enclave between the more developed areas of Somerville and Hastings. The school draws its enrolments from a particularly large area. The largest proportion of the school enrolments come from the southern areas of Somerville with other children coming from Tyabb, Hastings, Moorooduc and further afield. A common factor amongst many of the “out of neighbourhood” enrolments is the very good reputation that the school holds within the wider community for supporting students in achieving their personal best in a calm, caring and supportive environment. Our motto is “From little things, big things grow”. This represents much of what we aim to achieve in our school. It has obvious connections with our oak tree emblem and demonstrates our commitment to advance both the academic and personal development of our students providing opportunities to achieve “big things” from their first small beginnings in the Prep grades.
