Calamvale Community College opened in 2002 and has 2000 students from Prep to Year 12. From 2011, a Kindergarten on campus will offer quality programs for 132 children from 3? to 4? years. Having students for that extra year increases the seamless educational opportunities for our students. To encourage strong relationships between students who are at the same developmental stage, they work in smaller sub schools: Lower Junior (Prep to Y3) - 450 students, Upper Junior (Y4 to Y6) - 400 students, Middle (Y7 to Y9) - 600 students and Senior (Y10 to Y12) - 600 students. The sub schools operate as semi-autonomous mini schools whilst still allowing students to access the excellent resource base of the whole school. The curriculum has a strong focus on literacy, numeracy and consistent standards from Prep through to Year 12. E-learning is a top priority and the College has an excellent computer to student ratio. A take-home laptop program for Senior students commenced in 2011. The College?s MAYOP (Move At Your Own Pace) approach allows students who are gifted to learn at levels above their age cohort whilst still supporting those who may be struggling. Defined enrichment and acceleration programs operate in all sub schools. As students progress through the College, they specialise more. In the Middle School, students choose from 15 electives while Senior students choose from 36 subjects, including university and vocational options. Calamvale students consistently gain places at universities, TAFE and in the workforce. The College has a commitment to community involvement. The school?s state of the art 3-court sports centre and 3 ovals are used out of hours by local sporting clubs. Students have an extensive range of sporting and cultural co-curricular activities to choose from. From the Performance Excellence Program, the Calamvale Cougars became Queensland Champion Cheerleaders in their first year of competition.
