Glenview is a small Prep to Year 7 primary school with 225 students located in the hinterland of the Sunshine Coast. The school achieves high academic outcomes through a multi-age structure consisting of nine class groupings that enable teachers to focus on developing a community of learners. A caring, inclusive environment places the individual in the most advantageous position for developmental learning. In the cooperative family grouped classroom, continuity facilitates an individualised, child-responsive approach, which makes learning an enjoyable experience to be shared. Integrated units of work require active participation of students through an inquiry approach. Students are challenged to apply and transfer their knowledge and understanding of concepts, facts and procedures. A strong focus on health, fitness, personal responsibility and respect for the environment creates capable competent learners who contribute in meaningful ways as successful individuals and citizens. All teachers have received training in Gifted Education and a specially appointed teacher supports students who require differentiation of the mainstream curriculum. The regular curriculum is offered along with Physical Education, Music and Italian. Extra opportunities provided include Philosophy for Children, Chess, Choir, Recorder, Instrumental Music for Years 5 to 7, Environmental Education, Student Council, Perceptual Motor Program for Prep students and Toastmasters for Year 7. A Litter Free Lunch Program is highly valued by the school community and this program is endorsed through a Healthy Eating Policy. The school values a high level of parent involvement. A School Chaplain provides an additional source of support and advice for parents, students and staff.
