Our Lady of Victories School is a Catholic primary school, part of an urban community situated on the fringe of the Camberwell Junction. Our history is rich in heritage and tradition, stemming back to the official opening as St John Berchman's infant school in 1910. We recognise that learning is a lifelong process and aim to create a Catholic educational community in which our children are developed, intellectually, spiritually, socially, emotionally, aesthetically and physically according to their capabilities and to the best of their ability. The Religious Education curriculum expresses an authentic understanding of Christ and his teaching, seeking to bring into harmony faith, culture and life. Our Lady of Victories School endeavours to develop an understanding of the dignity of the human person. The curriculum is supported by the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS) and the school communicates regularly with parents, collecting data to inform assessment and future teaching. Literacy and numeracy are considered our core curriculum areas. Competence in these areas is essential if an individual is to participate fully in society. Our inquiry learning enables students to develop skills to discover and learn about themselves as individuals and as part of their local and global community. We acknowledge the Arts through our school based Performing Arts Program, private music lessons and a Visual Arts Program. We also offer dedicated programs in Physical Education, ICT and Library. Italian is the other language offered. Our children's wellbeing and connectedness is paramount and we include many whole school celebrations to encourage this. We have a school counsellor available to students, families and staff and a Buddy program that supports learning in the classroom and beyond. Our students participate in interschool sports competitions, swimming lessons, gymnastic lessons, Sports Day and fun and fitness activities throughout the year.
