Community Christian Academy was established in 1995 with the prime objective being that expressed in Proverbs 22:6 to 'Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.' To this end the school views itself as a complementary extension of the family home and community of believers. The values imparted will reflect these Christian values and will be modelled through the words and actions of staff members. This focus on excellence of character will also be mirrored in the uniquely individualized academic program with students encouraged to make full use of their God-given giftings and potential. The school curriculum is continually being updated and recent revisions have specifically targeted the new National Curriculum model. The NAPLAN literacy and numeracy benchmarks have indicated a consistent improvement in standards with the opportunity taken to address areas of deficiency. CCA is in a unique position to re-mediate the areas indicated by testing because each student has a tailor made learning pathway plotted on admission. This individualised course of study meets students' learning needs as opposed to an arbitrary grade or age-based expectation. The result is a raising of self-esteem and confidence in students who perceive themselves as lagging behind their age group peers while stretching those academically in advance of their grade level. There is no need for remedial or gifted programmes which can adversely affect their social interaction and integration. Students graduating from the Academy have gained admission to tertiary courses where the authorities have recognised the value of graduates who are self-motivated and acquainted with the study skills necessary for their chosen field. Former students over the past 16 years have graduated with distinction in such fields as education, music, the arts and law, whilst those with a vocational bent are presently working as chefs, wood machinists, builders and child care workers.
