Napperby Primary School is the centre of the local community. We have five key priorities to be developed and addressed from 2010-2012 along with embedding information and communication technology into the curriculum. Our teaching and learning programs are guided by our four values - mastery, respect, responsibility and integrity. We have an onsite child parent centre (CPC) where children participate in a play-based, literacy-rich environment. The CPC engages in regular whole-school activities and also runs a playgroup session once a week. Each student has access to their own personal laptop or desktop computer where they are able to use interactive programs such as Mathletics and Clicker 5. Each classroom has an interactive whiteboard. To provide a wider range of resources the school uses e-books and e-readers to extend literacy learning. Students with special needs are identified through classroom testing and further assessment from inter-agencies. A negotiated education plan (NEP) is developed and intensive support is given to the student to develop and improve their identified area of weakness as well as continuing to focus on learning for success in other learning areas. Parents are encouraged to work collaboratively with staff supporting their child's learning. There are various opportunities for students to be involved in special curriculum activities, including instrumental music lessons, Port Pirie District Combined Schools Choir, Jump Rope for Heart, Premiers Reading Challenge, Premiers Be Active Challenge, Student Representative Council, Innovative Community Action Networks (ICANS), Keeping Them Connected, and various sports events. Other sporting activities includes annual swimming lessons and Auskick. We also work closely with Port Germein Primary School with termly combined functions to develop social skills based on the Wilson Macaskill Program, and a combined sports day and beach fun day. Other opportunties exist within our school to experience hands-on learning that can be applied to everyday..
