Blandford Public School serves the communities of Blandford and Timor districts in the Upper Hunter. A majority of students live on rural properties. The school is the proud focus of the community, including those families that no longer have children at school. The school participates in many community events and is in turn supported by the groups that organise such events. Students, teachers and parents work together to build an environment in which students feel physically and psychologically safe and valued as individuals. Students are encouraged to be tolerant and inclusive of all. At the same time they are supported in developing strategies that will assist them to get past minor disappointments and perceived unfriendliness. The school community works hard to ensure that the students of this small school have the same opportunities as students in larger centres. There is a strong emphasis on literacy and numeracy, reflected usually in above-average results in almost all areas of statewide and national testing. Another important focus is the encouragement of healthy and active lifestyles through healthy eating, fitness and physical skills programs. Students are encouraged to engage with new technology to prepare for the world of the 21st century. Students in the senior class also contribute to the school by taking on shared monitor roles.
