Paynesville Primary School is located on the Gippsland Lakes 16 km from Bairnsdale. Our purpose is to provide programs, plans and policites that lead to our students being literate, numerate, confident, inquisitive, resilient and empathetic. Our SCARF values of Support, Co-operation, Acceptance, Respect & Responsibility and Friendliness & Fun are integrated across all areas of the school and school community. Our end of year enrolment was 219 after beginning the year with 204 and with enrolments reaching 226 at one point in the year. This fluctuation in enrolment has become a recognised pattern over the past 3-4 years. We had 10 classrooms in operation with a specialist area of ICT. 2010 was the second year of our participation in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program with students in grades 3-6 working with the kitchen and garden specialists each week. In 2010 Paynesville had a teaching staff time fraction equivalent to 11.6 and a support staff (including integration, library and office support and 0.8 business manager) equivalent to 3.34. The principal class was made up of a Principal and an Assistant Principal who had 0.8 classroom role. There was only one change in staff in 2010. In following the goals of our stategic plan and in response to the previous year's data, 2010 saw a continued focus on improving student outcomes in reading and number through the use of Highly Effective Literacy Teaching Strategies as presented by Professor John Munro. We continue to work as part of the Bairnsdale Cluster and the broader East Gippsland Network of schools.
