The Capricornia School of Distance Education commenced operation in 1993 as a twin campus, Band 8 school. The school shares a site with Denison State School in Emerald and Glenmore State School in Rockhampton and provides educational facilities for students from Prep to Year 12. The school's catchment area stretches from Mackay in the north to Bundaberg in the south and west to Jericho. We service 160 isolated families. Teachers provide forty minute telephone lessons each day as well as shorter one-on-one direct teaching to individual students. Parents are directly involved in delivering their child's education working as home tutors. The school Parents and Citizens Asociation is enthusiastic and active. The CSDE makes extensive use of ICT to enhance lessons delivered by phone and curriculum papers. The school is in the process of developing digital materials which will be available to all students within four years. Our school is a friendly school characterised by traditional values and progressive thinking. School Opinion Surveys' data indicates that 80% parents and students think that this is a good school. We recognise and value the relationships between students, home and school.
