Currambine Primary School is located approximately forty kilometres north of the centre of Perth, and is situated in the City of Joondalup. We have been open for 13 years and have recently been granted Independent Public School status and will operate with a School Board from 2011. We currently have just over 800 students enrolled from Kindergarten to Year 7 and are one of the largest primary schools in Western Australia. The school has a purpose built Library, Music Room, Science Room, an enclosed undercover area and specialist teaching areas for Computing and Art. The school has over eighty staff, including teachers, education assistants and administration staff. The staff are a balanced mix of newly trained teachers and highly experienced educators, with four Level 3 classroom teachers who are recognised in our system as exemplary educators. All staff share a common commitment to providing the best possible education for the children under their care. The school has specialist teachers for Art, Physical Education, Music and Computing, and provides opportunities for students from Year 3 to 7 to learn French. Through the School for Instrumental Music, selected students from years 6 and 7 also have the opportunity to learn to play the clarinet, trumpet and flute. The school is organised into teaching teams in which staff work together in planning and implementing exemplary teaching programs for our students. Student care and support is an important element of school life at Currambine with children able to be involved in a number of activities, such as the Cockatoo Environmental Club, Ambassadors, where older students work with younger students, Chess Club, the School Talent Quest, Camps and lunchtime Faction Activities. Students also have the opportunity to participate in whole school reward schemes including our Faction Reward Scheme, Gold Class Club for exemplary students and our Spine Tinglers Reading Program that encourages all students to become regular readers.
