Sutherland Dianella Primary School has a student enrolement of between 260-280 students with 30% from different cultures. The size of the school allows for an authentic individual student focus. Students at Educational Risk (SAER) and in-school and class Talented and Gifted programs (TAGS) are programs that are offered. The school welcomes and includes students with Special Needs. A Primary Extension Academic Course (PEAC) is also available in the district. The school seeks to celebrate its cultural diversity within the Australian way of life. Following a vigorous campaign, the school adopted the state fossil of the Go Go fish as its emblem in 1994. The school motto is 'Only Our Best'. The Vision of the school states; We strive to develop confident, independent learners with active and creative minds who possess healthy emotional intelligence and can use new technologies for learning. Values that underpin this Vision statement are: RESPECT; CITIZENSHIP; COMMITMENT; RESPONSIBILITY. The school has a technology focus with an Online Teaching and Learning System and extensive use of SMART Boards. The 'Go Go Program' develops leadership, decision making and opportunities to practice active local and global citizenship. This includes class meetings, a Student Parliament and senior students meeting peers from private schools in a cross cultural program called SUN (Students Uniting Nations). The school supports a sister school in Cambodia and also has strong programs to develop the social and emotional well-being of students. The school uses the Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies (PATHS) program to assist with this focus. The school choir consisting of selected students from Year 3-7, perform each year at a Music Festival and in varous venues in the local community. The school provides the opportunity of a camp for its Senior students every second year.
