Alligator Creek State School is a friendly, co-educational country school that is large enough to offer a range of programs, services and activities. It has a great reputation. We are proud of our happy, well-behaved students, our strong, supportive parent community, our dedicated staff and our playing fields, grounds and gardens. Catering for Prep through to Year 7, we are located in tropical North Queensland 15km north of Sarina and 26km south of Mackay, and near Hay Point, the largest coal terminal in the country. We have strong links with the community and are part of the Sarina Links cluster of schools. Our educational programs, based on the 8 key learning areas, are planned to ensure the highest possible standards in literacy and numeracy for our students. We offer a range of extra-curricular activities that students can involve themselves in and represent the school. Our school opened on 14 September 1896, and has grown to have an enrolment in excess of 400 students. Our school motto is 'Our Best Always'. We aim for our students to be safe, responsible and respectful learners and we use School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) as our framework for positive behaviour. We see social and emotional learning as an integral part of the curriculum and use the 'You Can Do It! Education'(YCDI) program. YCDI teaches the five foundations or keys to success, emotional well-being and social competence and how to be resilient. The keys are: Getting Along, Organisation, Persistence, Confidence and Resilience. We have a strong emphasis on environmental education and sustainable futures, with an aspect of this being the focus for one of the four integrated curriculum units that all year levels study and investigate each year. There are a growing number of environmental projects that our school is involved in, including foreshore revegetation and native plant propagation and green house, composting and worm farming, food gardening, and establishing an environmental reserve and learning area around our creek area,..
