Mount Gravatt State School is a small urban school which has long held traditions in the Mount Gravatt community. In 2010, enrolment was at 255 students. Mount Gravatt State School is a dynamic and diverse community, with this diversity including different cultures, broad demographics and students with disabilities. The school offers a Special Education Program with specific expertise in the area of Vision Impairment. Diversity adds to the richness of our curriculum programs and experiences for students. Our proximity to the University and Brisbane City influences enrolment trends at the school. Over forty nationalities are represented in our school population, with 25% of our students born overseas. Our school has a strong program in The Arts (both visual and performance), including strings and band programs, an annual school musical, arts extension program and visual arts show. The ICTs also play a high role, using our computer lab, interactive whiteboards in all classrooms and classroom computers. Innovative technology also supports students with vision impairment. Literacy and Numeracy hold strong foundations in our school and are used in all Key Learning Areas to ensure students can reach their potential, with both intervention for students who need additional support and a revised Gifted and Talented program. Mount Gravatt State School is part of the GEMS project (Gifted Education Mentors). Assistance is also provided via an English as Second Language Teacher and through the Special Education support program. Another key feature of Mount Gravatt State School's curriculum plan is the integration of Thinking Skills across the curriculum. Using Bloom's Taxonomy and the Multiple Intelligences we give students the skills to demonstrate deep knowledge throughout the curriculum.
