Our school is steeped in history, having opened in 1911. Next year we celebrate 100 years of education at Miallo! At Miallo State School we are very fortunate to have a strong family feel, a supportive community and a dedicated and caring staff. Currently we enjoy a stable student population of around 150 students in Prep to Year 7, and due to our school size, we are able to get to know every student individually. We belong to the Douglas Cluster of Schools and work with other schools to ensure we can achieve what is best for our students. Education is a partnership between the home and the school and parents and teachers work together to ensure our children achieve the best they can be. Our school has fine reputation for high academic, social and sporting outcomes. We are a Positive Behaviour School and expect our Miallo students to be well-behaved, well-mannered and respectful. We have built an atmosphere of respect and trust at the school through positive relationships and clear expectations. We value diversity in our school and strongly believe in the principles of inclusion and equity. We set explicit improvement agenda each year and continually challenge and improve our pedagogy (how we teach) based on the latest educational research and by collating and analysing our data. Through professional development and curriculum meetings, our staff are constantly striving to enhance their teaching skills and knowledge, to deliver the most engaging, quality curriculum possible. We continue to place a strong emphasis on literacy, numeracy, ICTs and 'explicit instruction'. Students also participate in weekly lessons with specialist music, health and physical education, library, Japanese (Years 6/7) and ICT teachers. There are also opportunities for students to participate in instrumental music, an enhancement program for identified gifted and talented students, and various extra-curriculum programs. In 2011, we are beginning the process of moving toward the full implementation of the National Curriculum in 2012.
