Roxby Downs Area School works has a motto of 'Success through Endeavour', beginning with a 'headstart into learning' in Reception, building towards the academically rigorous senior years. Our values of commitment, challenge, cooperation, consideration and courtesy are embedded in the curriculum and culture. Priorities for 2011 onwards include developing strong literacy and numeracy skills, a full uptake of science through the 'Primary Connections' model, and ongoing improvement in attendance and retention. We have close links with Roxby Downs Kindergarten and the local TAFE Campus, Andamooka Primary School, Woomera Area School and most recently with Marree Aboriginal School through a Trade Training Centre consolidated application. Originally built in 1987, the school has recently undergone major expansion works and upgrades. With the assistance of the Australian Government's Building Education Revolution funding, our school has two new external learning spaces, two large shaded recreation spaces and a large multi-purpose hall will be built in 2011. Using school and community resources we offer world class sporting facilities to our students. The State Government's Digital Education Revolution and sponsorship from major local industry (BHP Billiton) has enabled us to develop high quality, sustainable information and communication technolgies. Year 12 students are accomodated in a separate new complex combining one-to-one ICT facilities, teaching spaces and access to long-distance education via tele-conferencing. We host a special class of students with a range of complex disabilities, housed in a purpose-built facility on campus. Here curriculum delivery is supported by state-of-the-art ICT, highly trained specialist staff both on site and through the DECS Regional Office. Our school offers both academic and vocational pathways. Success of students in gaining school-based apprenticeships is increasing annually.
