Kapunda Primary School provides a safe and diverse learning environment to educate and empower students to be successful in the community and in the future. The school has a scaffolded and consistent approach to learning that includes an emphasis on authentic engagement of students through a range of programs and approaches. Our values are respect, honesty, effort and cooperation, which are reinforced through approaches such as Programme Achieve, The Virtues, and the Friendly Schools and Families Program. Behaviour development programs take a restorative approach. The school is supported by a school counsellor and chaplain. A breakfast program and other social justice initiatives help support students. There are also support programs to help students with learning difficulties. Out of school hours care and vacation vare programs also support families. We have a strong commitment to numeracy, science and literacy. Information and communication technology (ICT) is embedded into learning programs, with computers and an interactive whiteboard in all classes. Specialist teachers provide performing arts, phyiscal education (PE) and Japanese. The school is involved in special PE activities, sports clinics, concerts, choir, Wakakirri, performances and camps. We work with the community through school action teams and are involved in many community activities and events. In October 2010 our enrolment numbers were 286. We have a significant number of children taking part in the National Educational Psychological Service (NEPS) including children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Four per cent of students are from Aboriginal backgrounds, one per cent speak languages other than English and 30 per cent of students utilise the School Card. Over the last three years we have implemented the Accelerated Literacy Program which is now operating in all classes.
