Glenburnie Primary School is a small rural school situated 10km east of Mount Gambier and 7km west of the Victorian border. We are committed to providing a school where we have a cooperative, caring and non-threatening environment. We offer a relevant, challenging, varied, success-orientated and adequately resourced curriculum. We have a strong focus on teaching literacy, numeracy, science, physical education and information and communications technology. Each teaching area contains an interactive whiteboard and a pod of computers. The year 2-7 classes have access to laptops that are wirelessly connected to the school's server and internet. The laptops can to be used anywhere in the school. Our teaching programs focus on developing and implementing a challenging and engaging curriculum, building positive relationships between students and teachers, connecting and personalising learning and catering for the individual needs of all children. We offer many opportunities for students to develop as well-rounded citizens through their classroom programs and by way of personalised learning opportunities. These include environmental education from Reception to Year 7, Student Voice, voluntary choir for Year 5 to 7 students, instrumental music instruction, a whole-school concert, and various sporting and academic activities. Our Environment Education Program has a strong connection with Forestry SA. We are working with members of Forestry SA to establish a biodiversity corridor linking two native forest reserves to the south of Mount Gambier. This program has been runnning for three years and continues to develop and grow. Our students participate in Saturday morning sporting competitions. Teachers and parents assist with coaching, managing and umpiring. The School Sports Day is held in Term 1 and the school also competes in the Mount Gambier District Small Schools Sports Day in Term 1. The whole school is involved in swimming lessons in Term 1.
